Kyle Dittmer Biography

2007 DCC Session: Climate Change in Denmark and Greenland

Kyle DittmerKyle Dittmer was born and raised in Spokane, Washington.  He earned two B.Sc. degrees from the University of Washington in Geology and Oceanography, then a M.Sc. degree in Geology from Eastern Washington University.  Kyle worked as a Hydrologist for NOAA’s National Weather Service in Portland for 10 years.  In 1998, he joined the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, as a Hydrologist-Meteorologist.  He also teaches part-time at Portland Community College and just began teaching part-time as a Science Professor at Marylhurst University.

In 2003, after 14 years of study, Kyle was awarded a USDA Professional Certificate in Meteorology.  He is the first and only certified meteorologist anywhere in Indian Country.  Kyle was elected in 2005 as the President of the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, the largest professional weather organization in the world.  He has published papers in the prestigious Journal of the American Water Resources Association.  Kyle’s work blends hydrology and computer modeling to assist in salmon recovery efforts.  His latest work maps out the impacts of climate change on tribal reservation land, water, and salmon resources.  Kyle just returned from Denmark, after meeting with Danish climate researchers, and has new information to share on the prospects of future climate change.
