The Northwest Danish Foundation is pleased to be theTitle Sponsor of the Pacific Northwest Ballet's All Premiere November production of Valse Triste by Peter Martins.

The Pacific Northwest Ballet’s ambitious 2006-2007 Season continues to bring a wide variety of new works into the repertory, including nineteen PNB premieres and two world premieres.

ALL PREMIERE, a dynamic mixed program of PNB premieres, Nov 2-4 and 9-12 at McCraw Hall, adds four new works to the company’s repertory: the World Premiere of an exciting new work by choreographer Victor Quijada with music by Mitchell Akiyaman; Ulysses Dove’s expressive Dancing on the Front Porch of Heaven, set to music by Arvo Part; Peter Martins’ brooding Valse Triste, with music by Jean Sibelius; and Twyla Tharp’s imaginative Waterbaby Bagatelles, set to a medley of 20th century bagatelles.  The Seattle premiere of Valse Triste is generously underwritten in part by the Northwest Danish Foundation.

Peter Martins, dancer and choreographer, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark.  He trained at the school of the Royal Danish Ballet and performed with the company for three years before joining the New York City Ballet in 1970.  His key roles, and a celebrated partnership with Suzanne Farrell, propelled him to prominence as a dancer.  He began choreographing with Calcium Light Night in 1977, and in 1983 he was appointed co-ballet master-in-chief with Jerome Robbins and retired from dancing.  He became the sole master-in-chief in 1990.  His autobiography, Far From Denmark, was published in 1982, and his exercise regimen, NYCB Workout, first appeared in book from in 1997, with a DVD and a second series produced later.  In 1983, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark Knighted Peter Martins of The Order of Danneborg.
