Dane Camp Recap

August 6-10, 2007

By Sarah Barber, Dane Camp Director

2007 Dane Camp

This summer at Dane camp we all got the chance to take a make-believe trip to Denmark. Getting in and out of the country was not too difficult, we were equipped with our own passports and security guards. During our five days there, we made stops in Demarks’ five different regions. At each stop we took a little time to learn about the area and the tourist attractions near our destination.

Getting to each town was interesting; everyone enjoyed the pretend transportation by plane, boat, car, bike and train. I would be lying if I said the counselors didn’t enjoy it too. Each day the activities and crafts tied in with where we were in Denmark.

We were grateful to have lunches and music provided by seven talented volunteers. In the words of the campers, “The food was yummy and the music was cool.” On our last day we celebrated our return back to the U.S. with a homecoming party. Later that day the campers sang and danced for their parents. It was easy to see we had twelve campers that were not only great tourists but grand performers.

The week was a success and I hope all my travel buddies return back next year for another week of fun and adventure!

The Northwest Danish Foundation would like to extend a special thank you to the Puget Sound area Danish Circles for their generous 2007 Dane Camp sponsorship. Their support helped reduce the cost of this year's camp for every camper. Thank you Puget Sound area Danish Circles!

We would also like to give a big thanks to our camp director, camp counselors and volunteers for all their hard work during this exciting week!

Dane Camp is held the first week of August at the NWDF Seattle Cultural Center. Children ages 5-10 are welcome to attend an activity-filled week offering crafts, field trips, singing, folk dancing, Danish stories and language centered on an adventurous theme.
