Palm Springs International Film Festival

January 4-15, 2007

The Northwest Danish Foundation proudly sponsored seven Danish films at the 18th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.  The Festival is held annually with films from all over the world such as Brazil, Spain, Russia, Thailand, France, Norway and of course Denmark.  Without our sponsorship Danish films would not have been at the festival and we are excited to have played a major role to ensure their inclusion.  The seven Danish films presented were 1:1, After the Wedding, Allegro, The Boss of it All, Cecilie, Prague and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

One film in particular, After the Wedding, was extremely well received and is in the official submissions for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.  This movie stars Mads Mikkelsen one of the most recognized and exceptional Danish actors of this decade.  His most recent American movie appearance was in the new James Bond film, Casino Royale, where he played the arch villain.  Mads has been in many Danish movies and TV shows over the years including a few Spanish films.  One of Mads first roles was in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Pusher Trilogy I and II.  We were excited to find the Pusher Trilogy on DVD in region 1 format for the U.S. and we now have it available for rent in both libraries of the Northwest Danish Foundation.  We also have a few of Mads Mikkelsen’s other movies in our libraries such as Elsker Dig For Evigt, Enkort Enlang, De Gronne Slagtere and Vildspor, which we will be viewing at our March Film Night.
