Transportation Committee Visits Seattle
By Betty Ravenholt, VP of Community Outreach
The Danish Parliament’s Transportation Committee and the Danish Minister for Transportation and Energy, H.E. Flemming Hansen, visited Seattle, Thursday and Friday, August 31st and September 1st, as part of their recent official visit to the U.S. West Coast.
Danish Ambassador to the United States, Friis Arne Petersen, and members of the Embassy staff accompanied the delegation. The delegation traveled here to meet with politicians, authorities, organizations, and companies to study national and local approaches to challenges in the transportation sector in the United States. In Seattle, the Northwest Danish Foundation helped the Danish Embassy facilitate meetings for the official delegation with representatives of the Port of Seattle, Sound Transit and the State of Washington.
After the Thursday and Friday meetings, the Minister along with executives from Puget Sound Energy and Vestas toured the Puget Sound Energy wind power project,Wild Horse, in Ellensburg, Washington. The wind turbines used in this project are manufactured by Vestas, the Danish company that leads the world in wind turbine technology.
Los Angeles and San Francisco were other stops on the delegation’s tour where they visited metro systems and port container terminals. This was the third visit to Seattle by officials from the Danish government and we anticipate more to follow.
