Danish Prime Minister visits Seattle

DANISH PRIME MINISTER ANDERS FOGH RASMUSSEN VISITS GREATER SEATTLE
In Seattle on June 6, the Prime Minister spoke at The Fairmont Olympic Hotel at 1PM. In attendance was a visiting delegation of Danish business and government leaders along with business leaders from Washington, Oregon and regional public officials. Denmark is Washington State’s 15th largest airborne trading partner. The Prime Minister spoke on trade and US relations.
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND
President Bush invited the Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen to Camp David on Friday, June 9, 2006. This was 6th meeting between the President and the Prime Minister in 5 years. On the eve of the visit, the Danish Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Friis Arne Petersen, states: “The Camp David meeting offers an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussion on a range of bilateral and strategic issues. Denmark and the United States are close allies in the fight against terror. Like the United States, Denmark is committed to supporting the people of Iraq and Afghanistan, promoting reform and democracy in the broader Middle East, and strengthening the transatlantic partnership.”
The meeting between Prime
Minister Rasmussen and President Bush takes place at a point in time
when the economic relationship between Denmark and the United States
has never been better - a fact that is also expected to be part of the
discussions between the Prime Minister and the President.
After
meeting the President at Camp David, the Prime Minister will go to the
West Coast June 12 - 13. On the West Coast the Prime Minister will
visit Danish companies and participate in the opening of Vestas
windmills at Montezuma Hills, CA. On Monday 12 June, the Prime Minister
will give a lecture at the University of California, Berkeley. In
Seattle on June 13, the Prime Minister will meet the chairman of the
board of Microsoft, Bill Gates and speak at a lunch hosted by the
Northwest Danish Foundation.
This will be the 3rd head of state visit in the last few months with both the President of China and Mexico visiting the Puget Sound region. In the last year, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, President of Ireland, President of Uganda and President of Latvia have visited.
