Midsommarfest

Sunday, June 29, 2008

11:00AM-6:00PM

Saint Edwards State Park (Kenmore, WA)

Celebrate the summer solstice in a traditional Scandinavian way by attending Skandia Folkdance Society’s 50th annual Midsommarfest to be held Sunday, June 29 at Saint Edwards State Park in Kenmore.  With two stages of traditional dancing, a musician’s corner and hundreds of costumed folk dancers showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the Nordic countries, this is a very enjoyable day for the whole family in a truly lovely natural setting.

Beginning at 11:00am, festival participants can wander the meadow and enjoy the folk music and dancing, while munching on traditional Scandinavian delicacies. Children’s activities abound while vendors demonstrating and selling traditional crafts can be found on Hemslöjdsmarknad.  Look for the NWDF informational booth featuring children’s crafts and tasty Danish treats along this avenue of cultural delights. Don’t forget to make a classic midsommarkrans or flower crown before the grand parade and the raising of the majstång (garlanded midsommar pole) begins at 2:30 pm.  Spectators of all ages are invited to help hoist the 45-foot pole with their muscles or cheers, and then to join in the rousing långdans (serpentine running dance) around the pole. Entertainment, food, and crafts activities continue until 6 pm when tired but happy feet will need a rest.

We invite you and your family, grandparents, parents, and children of all ages to join us at this year’s Midsommarfest celebration. Admission is free, so bring your dancing shoes and please stop by and visit the us at the NWDF booth.
