Founded in Copenhagen in 1999, Wood’N’Flutes (Vicki Boeckman, Pia Brinch Jensen, and Gertie Johnsson) have performed widely in Europe and the USA, captivating audiences with their unique mixture of virtuosity, grace, humor and charm. Wood’N’Flutes’ repertoire spans over 800 years, calling for recorders of all different sizes and historical types. The trio creates a seamless experience of aural and visual beauty by interweaving music with poetry and text readings and a surprising use of the performance space.
For three consecutive years, Wood’N’Flutes in collaboration with harpist, Tine Rehling, was chosen as one of the Danish state ensembles to perform for grades K - 6 as a part of the Live Music in the Schools series. (Levende Musik i Skolerne). They adore performing for children and have written several short musical theatre pieces with interactive parts for children and their parents.
Vicki, a California native who recently relocated to Seattle after 23 years of performing and teaching in Denmark, spearheaded their international ventures by organizing concerts and workshops in New England, the Pacific Northwest, the Bay Area and Arizona. Pia and Gertie reside and teach in Denmark, but the trio is determined to continue playing together in spite of the challenges of geography. Wood’N’Flutes has been on two American tours, one in January 2003 and another in March of 2005. They are hoping to return in spring of 2008.
Wood’N’Flutes has commissioned and premiered several works by Danish composers. They recently received grants for their new recording project which will be compositions of living Danish composers. The recording will be completed in November of 06 and released in spring of 2007. Their first CD, Journey, has received critical acclaim in Europe and the United States.
