Food Drive
Annual Giving to our local Food Drive Organizations
The Northwest Danish Foundation collected food and monies for our Annual food drive from April 28th - May 30th, 2006. The contributions benefited both the Northwest Harvest in the state of Washington and the Oregon Food Bank in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
Did you know that the elderly and children, two of the most vulnerable segments of our society, represent more than half of those who receive food assistance from Northwest Harvest? One in every eight households in Washington State is hungry or at risk for hunger. More than 75% of all poor children in the U.S. live in working families.
Are you concerned about those who need food but cannot get out to obtain provisions from a food bank? Over 300 organizations providing food assistance through outreach receive the food they provide to their beneficiaries from Northwest Harvest. The Oregon Food Bank serves very similar populations.
The Northwest Danish Foundation realizes that hunger and the need for food in our communities is greater than most realize. Our food drive is a good way for us to reach out and help fill a very basic need in our communities. We hope that this year's food collection effort will be the first in an annual tradition of NWDF assistance to Northwest Harvest and the Oregon Food Bank.
